Victoria Falls

We've been here in Zimbabwe since Christmas Eve. Had an uneventful trip here by plane from Windhoek, Namibia, but later that evening we had a bizarre episode. A guy showed up at our hotel asking for us, saying he was from immigration and saying that we had to pay for the visas we had gotten earlier. We had expected to pay, but no one asked us for anything at the time. So Steve went to the front desk and paid him and got a receipt for it, so presumably all is well now. Very weird!

Since then we have had a very good stay. We have gone on a game drive and we saw elephants! We also saw other animals, but the elephants impressed us the most. That evening we went on a sunset cruise and saw actual hippos, not submerged but coming out of the water in their full glory. Another impressive sight!

Yesterday we went on a tour of the Falls themselves. It was very interesting, with many different views of the different sections of the Falls. And they have only a thorn fence as a barrier to keep people from the edge, rather than the massive concrete barriers at Niagara. Much more natural.

Today we went on a tour of the Victoria bridge. It goes between Zimbabwe and Zambia. We started on the Zambian side and walked on a catwalk under the main level of the bridge with our guide who was also an actor who was pretending to be the French engineer who was in charge of constructing the bridge back in 1905. He did an impressive job of making his subject interesting. We really enjoyed it.

While we did the walk, other people were doing bungee jumping from the bridge. Unfortunately one of them got hurt, the cord hit him in the eye. We were part of the party that took him to a clinic where he could be looked after. It was sort of weird. We had never met him before, but I spent the entire drive praying for him. I hope he's okay.

Now we are back at our hotel. Tomorrow we move to another one where we will join the tour going through Botswana and back to Windhoek, Namibia. That will be the end of our holiday. We'll have to be thinking about what we are doing in Malawi. Back to real life again after our lovely holiday.

A Christmas to remember! Love the picture of you and Steve with the falls. The flowers are so exotic - nothing like what we have here in Canada. Same goes for the wildlife, which must be phenomenal for you, experienced in real life, natural setting. Missed you at Christmas but happy that you are living this glorious experience!

I absolutely love you two, love the pictures of both of you, and the elepahans and I saved that picture of devils falls cause I'd like to try to paint something similar.
