We arrived yesterday about noon local time, after a journey that was remarkably smooth. Our flights went well, and we were met in Blantyre by our host, Blair, and Hastings, with whom we will be working. What a relief to be here and starting to meet people we've been hearing about!
We spent the afternoon settling in, unpacking, and relaxing. Had an early night after a pleasant dinner with our host family.
Today we spent the day getting used to Malawi, doing some errands with Blair in the morning and doing some grocery shopping in the afternoon. There was a fierce thunderstorm early afternoon--and I mean fierce! We were used to rain in Bangladesh, but not so much the thunder and lightning. It was exciting.
We actually stopped by a bookstore as well, where we found some curriculum materials. May be helpful, but we'll see. We are supposed to be having lunch with the General Secretary of the Synod of Blantyre tomorrow. So that will be interesting.
Well I am running out of energy for typing on my phone, so I will write more next week. We are excited to be here and seeing what the country is like.
I’m so glad you’re getting into the swing of things. Can as well get things ready so you can enjoy your holiday. If I know you, you’d just worry about it anyways! And don’t be getting you head way up in the clouds meeting all these big mucky mucks. You must be in the rainy season, which will soon be over. Miss you . Love G
It's great to hear that you arrived safely in Malawi! Such a warm welcome with more good things to come - such as lunch with this important personage. Gathering curriculum ideas already - true teachers preparing well in advance! Meanwhile, enjoy the time of rest and travel before settling down to work.
Love, Elma
